About

Rainbow Child Development Center offers small-group discovery centers where children take part in block play, housekeeping, dramatic play, reading, quiet play, science, and art. Children use toys, games, record players, and books, and their artwork is displayed in designated areas so it can be seen and appreciated. Parents are able to observe their child through closed-circuit camera monitors in the main lobby or directly in the classroom.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM; each child is in care for no more than 10 hours per day

Rainbow Child Development Center began when two sisters started a home daycare that grew into large daycare centers throughout Prince George’s County, Maryland, and has provided child care services for over 15 years. The management team is Christian, and the center states that it is not Christian-based. The center’s mission states that it aims to provide care and education in a loving, nurturing, healthy, and safe environment, with age-appropriate programs that encourage imagination and a natural love of learning. The mission also states that carefully selected learning materials and trained staff are used to enhance children’s skills and support social and cognitive abilities through guided learning experiences, with a daily mission to have a positive impact on each child who attends Rainbow Child Development Center.

The center states that guidance from skilled, trained teachers and caregivers promotes children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Every classroom has child-sized furniture, equipment, toilets, and sinks, and children work and play together in small groups in discovery centers around the room. Furniture, playground equipment, toys, and educational items are chosen for safety, educational value, and quality, and the environment is described as clean, safe, and well planned. Every classroom has two exits, one to a central hallway and one to a fenced playground area, and closed-circuit cameras are installed in all classrooms, playgrounds, corners of the building, and at the front door.

Parents are welcome to observe their child via the lobby monitor system or in the classroom. The center accepts Maryland Scholarship Vouchers at all centers. The program states that it believes children benefit from an awareness of cultural diversity, and when cultural celebrations are included in classroom programs, they are approached from a sociological rather than a religious standpoint. The center also states that families, schools, and communities are partners in preparing Maryland’s young children to become life-long learners and contributing members of society.
