About

NorthBay Outdoor School offers a 5 day 4 night residential outdoor education program where students learn while they conduct authentic investigations of environmental issues. The program’s education experiences are structured as week-long residential programs focused on academic engagement and social emotional development for middle school students.

• Ages: 11–13 years old
• Schedule: 5 day 4 night residential outdoor education program

NorthBay Outdoor School operates as part of NorthBay, which opened its doors to students in 2005. The program’s mission is to challenge middle school students to realize that their attitudes and actions have a lasting impact on their future, the environment, and the people around them by using Common Core and Next Generation Science standards, character development, and the outdoors as an integrating context. NorthBay is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization and is described as the nation’s largest outdoor education campus and premier program.

NorthBay Outdoor School is the product of a public/private partnership between the Erickson Foundation, the Maryland State Department of Education, and the Department of Natural Resources. One of NorthBay’s core values is collaboration, reflected in long-lasting partnerships with a diverse group of organizations that support the delivery of the NorthBay mission for tens of thousands of children every year.
