Scouting America was incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, and the Del-Mar-Va Council was established in 1917. The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting America has programs for young men and women, and the Del-Mar-Va Council provides Scouting opportunities throughout the Delmarva Peninsula, serving over 200 units and 2,000 volunteers who are delivering the promise of Scouting to over 3,600 young men and women. The Council covers fourteen counties and is divided into four Scouting districts. Del-Mar-Va Council Day Camps are open to boys and girls in 1st–5th grade and are open to non-Scouts. Scouting works through neighborhoods, volunteer organizations, and faith-based organizations to help young people appreciate and respond to the needs of others. The council’s programs include strong drug abuse awareness and prevention programs emphasizing the value of healthy living habits. Rodney Scout Reservation Summer Camp is described as the only Scout camp on the Chesapeake Bay. The Akridge Scout Reservation includes an Outdoor Programs Department and Customer Service Center and a Delaware Brick Scout Shop nearby. The Akridge Scout Reservation Outdoor Programs Department and Customer Service Center operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Scout Shop at Akridge is open Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and the Henson Scout Shop is open every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM from September through May.
