About
The Loft Collective offers small batch art experiences where children work with drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and fiber arts. Weekly art classes and other programs focus on these hands-on art activities for both young children and older students.
• Ages: 2–17 years old
• Schedule: Full day camps for elementary students during the summer and on school days off; summer camps run 9:00–3:00 with optional aftercare until 5:30.
• Price: Summer camp enrollment is refundable until April 1, except for a nonrefundable $35; after April 1, there are no summer camp refunds.
The Loft Collective offers an after school program where children can wind down after the school day, explore art, and spend time with peers, as well as single-event workshops that teach a new skill or technique, offered regularly for adults and seasonally for children. Programs for both young children and older students use art to inspire growth, amplify voices, and foster cultural healing, and the space is described as a creative sanctuary where art, nature, and literature nurture children while empowering families to engage in community life. Its mission is to provide a creative sanctuary for children and families; a space to foster connection and promote personal growth through art.
The Loft Collective began in 2012 as Little Loft, a Capitol Hill art space for children, and expanded to Takoma Park in 2015. Following a pandemic pause in 2020, it reopened in 2021 as The Loft Collective, and in 2025 it expanded again with a second location in Hyattsville, MD; the Hyattsville studio opened in 2025. The leadership team includes Lia Salza, Founder & Executive Director; Meg Ryan, Creative Director; Martina Loncar, Program Manager; Carolyn Dodenhoff, Aftercare Coordinator for 3rd–5th grade; and Ciarra Walters, Program Manager at The Loft’s Hyattsville location. Lia has a BA from Wesleyan University in American Studies and an Ed.M. from Harvard University in Mind, Brain and Education; Meg has a BFA in Fine Arts from MSU; Martina earned her BA from Colgate University in Studio Art and Educational Studies and her MFA in Studio Art from the American University in Washington, DC; Carolyn graduated from the University of Denver with a BA and MA in Art History and Museum Studies; and Ciarra received her MFA in Photography, Media & Society from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
