About

Takoma Park Child Development Center offers homework help, enrichment activities, and time for creating crafts. Children spend time interacting with friends and exploring their neighborhood and world on daily walks and adventures.

• Ages: 1–12 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday, 7 AM–6 PM

Takoma Park Child Development Center offers a year-round, full time preschool program for ages 18 months–5 years, as well as before and after care and summer camp for grades K–6. The program follows a developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum and provides nutritious meals and snacks. Summer camp is described as unique and separate from the school year. The center accepts children receiving scholarships through the Maryland State Department of Education Childcare Scholarship Program. The staff is described as qualified, caring, and experienced.

TPCDC states that its mission is to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment where a positive sense of self, feelings of trust and security, and a love for learning and respect for others will develop, and to promote a harmonious, diverse community while supporting families with consistent, convenient, affordable, high quality child care.

Parents describe their experiences with the program in several ways. One parent, Jocelyn L., says their family has been “blown away” by how much their son has learned, and notes strong communication from teachers and staff through daily progress notes and class activity pictures. Another parent, Alan K., calls the center “a bright spot” in their family’s lives and highlights the patience, encouragement, and joy shown by teachers and caregivers. Jen S. notes that her kids have learned tasks like washing their hands themselves and mentions creating crafts, interacting with friends, and going on daily walks and adventures with teachers. Frank H. shares that all three of his children attended over a decade span and that the family trusts and cherishes the staff’s care. Jessica E. describes joining mid-pandemic and being impressed by what TPCDC has done to keep kids and teachers safe and parents informed, and says it is clear to her that TPCDC puts students, staff, and caregivers first.
