About

Portland Conservatory of Music offers private music lessons, group classes, concerts, festivals, lectures, and other public performances. Students can also attend a Noonday Concert and a Master Class from a visiting music artist. The program provides musical instruction in piano, voice, strings, winds, percussion, and brass instruments, and teaches music theory, history, the literature of music, and music performance.

• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Friday, with general hours from 9:00 am–8:00 pm and in-office hours from 9:00 am–5:00 pm

Founded in 1995, Portland Conservatory of Music has provided music education for students ages 1–90+ for over 23 years. It is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community music school with wide-ranging music educational programs open to all ages and abilities, and it describes itself as a community music school for all ages, abilities, and financial circumstances. The conservatory has 50+ faculty members, described as among the best in Maine, who teach over 25 instruments and proudly offer several awards that recognize musical and teaching excellence.

The mission of Portland Conservatory of Music is to provide access to quality music education for community members of all ages, abilities, and financial levels. The conservatory states that “Everyone is a Musician” and notes that it is celebrating 30 years of enhancing the quality of life in Portland, Maine through music education and performance for all ages, abilities, and financial levels. It promotes music in the community by sponsoring concerts, festivals, lectures, and other public performances, and by actively seeking to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the study of music and related programs in the community. The program also offers free and low-cost performances and festivals, and world-renowned musicians who have performed there include Frank Glazer, Elliott Schwartz, Marc Johnson, Trond Saeverud, the Portland String Quartet, Duncan Cumming, Elizabeth Austin, George Lopez, Tamara Poddubnaya, and many others.
