AAPS Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed) offers activities such as Youth Soccer, Youth Chess Tournament, Youth Art, Spring Break & Summer Camps, and Before & After Care. The program includes adapted programming for differently-abled children and adults and offers a generous scholarship program for its activities. Programs take place in convenient locations throughout Ann Arbor, including school buildings, city recreational facilities, and other community locations. AAATA Bus Line 26 stops at Pioneer High School near Rec & Ed.

• Price: Support for the program comes from fees, donations, grants, and in-kind help from Ann Arbor Public Schools and the City of Ann Arbor.
For almost 100 years, AAPS Community Education and Recreation has provided a wide variety of high quality, affordable enrichment and recreational opportunities to residents of Ann Arbor and surrounding communities. Staff in its five divisions (Team Sports, Lifelong Learning, Early Childhood, Before/After Care, and Administration) serve about 19,000 youth and 18,500 adults annually, from birth to senior adult. The program’s mission is to improve the quality of life in the community through recreation and education, and its core values are to promote well-being, build community, be inclusive, meet Ann Arbor Public Schools and community needs, and ensure Rec & Ed’s continued ability to provide services to the community. Rec & Ed follows a Community Education philosophy where programs are developed and provided based on what is needed in each community, and staff routinely conduct surveys, focus groups, and conversations around town to find out what the community would like them to offer. They state, “We strive to serve one and all in our community!” The office is closed June 18 - August 21 due to construction at their office at Pioneer High School, and staff will be working at different locations in the school district.
