First City Dance Studio Recreational and Competitive Dance Programs offers classes in tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, hip hop, lyrical, stretching/toning, and musical theater. The program also includes Multiple Exposure classes that combine tap, jazz, basic ballet, basic tumbling, and creative moves, as well as Combo classes that combine tap and ballet or tap and jazz. Additional options include Mommy & Me and Tiny Tappers/Fairy Ballerinas.
• Ages: 18 months–18 years old
• Schedule: Month-to-month classes from September through June, plus summer dance camps in July and August; Multiple Exposure is a 45-minute class, and tap, ballet, and jazz are each one-hour classes
The program includes both recreational and competitive dance options, with recreational classes offered in tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, and hip hop for all ages and levels from 18 months and older. Competitive dancers spend several hours a week in the studio and attend competition tryouts in August during a summer Dance Intensive. Classes range from beginner to advanced, and dress codes are specified for each class type, with all required dance-wear available at a studio store in the lobby, where rubber bands and bobby pins can be purchased for 25¢. Loose jewelry or watches are not worn in class, only dance shoes are allowed on the dance floors, and teachers reserve the right to dismiss any student from a lesson if they are not properly dressed.
