The Gym Bin offers recreational gymnastics classes, beginning gymnastics instruction, and intermediate gymnastics instruction. It also offers USAG competitive gymnastics and an Xcel program. The Gym Bin is the home of the Bemidji High School Gymnastics Team.
• Ages: 1–18 years old
The Gym Bin was established in 1987 and has been serving the community for over 30 years. Its recreational class program instructs beginning and intermediate gymnastics starting at the age of one and includes recreational classes and USAG competitive gymnastics for youth age 1–18. The program lists benefits of involvement in gymnastics as self-confidence, flexibility, strength, agility, coordination, determination, discipline, mental focus, and overall fitness and well being for now and the future. The Gym Bin states that its goal is to be a place where children have fun and athletes are developed, and its mission is a commitment to not just developing gymnasts, but the development of individuals as a whole.
The leadership team includes Mary Allen, Owner; Cassandra Hietala, Owner; Mikayla Simon, General Manager; and Brittney Beck, Program Coordinator. Mary Allen is a gym teacher and long time advocate for the health and wellness of children. Cassandra Hietala is an elementary teacher who started gymnastics at the age of 3, was the first USAG Jr. Olympic Level 9 gymnast to compete out of the Gym Bin, and began coaching in 2006. The Gym Bin is a member of USA Gymnastics.
Gymnastics in the Bemidji area is supported by a non profit organization, The Bemidji Gymnastics Club, whose purpose is to support gymnastics in the Bemidji Area. The Bemidji Gymnastics Club owns much of the equipment housed in the Gym Bin and works to reduce the cost of gymnastics, and The Gym Bin partners with the Bemidji Gymnastics Club in promoting the sport of gymnastics.
