About
Bloomington Athletic Association Basketball is part of a larger youth sports program that includes Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball along with other sports such as Cricket, Baseball, Flag Football, Spring Football (Flag & 7v7), Tennis Camps & Match Play, Soccer – Boys & Girls, Football, Golf, Wrestling, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Softball – Slow Pitch, and a Track & Field Team. The program is run within the Bloomington Athletic Association, which has been keeping kids active since 1954 and offers youth organized sports without tryouts and without regard to ability, at a cost described as affordable to all.
• Price: BAA provides low cost organized youth sports. If fees are an issue, BAA offers scholarships and financial assistance, based on ability to pay, to provide equal opportunity to play for all youth.
The Bloomington Athletic Association was organized in 1953 and established in 1954, and its philosophy has remained the same for over 6–7 decades: to offer youth organized sports programs without tryouts, without regard to ability, and at a cost described as affordable to all. Bloomington Athletic Association Basketball is part of a 501(c)3 volunteer sports organization that serves over 3,000 youth in 13 sports annually and is described as one of the longest-standing and one of the largest volunteer athletic organizations in the United States. The Boys Basketball program is led by Commissioner Rick Zilka, and the Girls Basketball program is led by Commissioner Katina Williams, within a broader leadership team that includes sport-specific commissioners and board officers such as President Will Easton and Treasurer Glenn Riemersma. BAA provides athletic equipment and referees (including substitute umpires, scorekeepers, and judges), as well as fields and facilities and community engagement activities, and relies on donations from individuals, companies, and organizations. Parents, guardians, relatives, and friends are strongly encouraged to volunteer as Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Co-Coaches, Timekeepers, Scorekeepers, or to assist the coach and team in other ways.
