Summer Camps at The Works Museum
The Works Museum, 9740 Grand Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55420
About
Pre K Summer Camps at The Works Museum include hands-on projects where children explore, design, and build. Campers work with hammers and drills, use tools that squish, cut, and connect things, create and test messy mixtures, make cloud dough and a balloon fidget, lift objects with a crane, use levers, move with wheels and axles, and create a force field. Parents are welcome at Pre K camps.
• Ages: 4–5 years old
• Schedule: Pre K camps run Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m., with each session running from the first listed date to the last (for example, June 8–11), and drop-off beginning at 8:30 a.m. with pick-up from 12–12:15 p.m.
• Price: Make it Cool with Tools: $235, $211.50 members. Make it Squishy: $235, $211.50 members. Make it Superpowered: $235, $211.50 members.
Pre K camps are for preschool children entering kindergarten or High-Five programs in the fall and are described as ideal for preschool girls and boys. Specific 2026 sessions include Make it Cool with Tools (June 8–11, August 10–13, and August 24–27, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.), Make it Squishy (August 3–6, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.), and Make it Superpowered (June 8–11 and July 6–9, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.). The Works Museum focuses on engineering to encourage kids to be builders, designers, and problem solvers and offers hands-on exhibits, camps, field trips, family programs, birthday parties, workshops, and special activity days. Sensory-friendly kits are available for check-out at the front desk, including visual timers, headphones, fidgets, gloves, and sunglasses. Members receive discounted camp pricing and free museum admission with a digital member card and photo ID. By registering for camp, families attest that they have read and agree to the camp and cancellation policies of The Works Museum.
The Works Museum states its mission as: “To inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, and creative problem solvers.” The Works Museum provides outreach with programs brought to the community and runs the She Engineers program referenced by a YWCA Girls Inc. Manager. One visitor describes The Works Museum as providing hands-on STEM learning in a free-play setting. A camp parent notes that instructors enjoy what they teach and are interested in getting to know their child as a person. A YWCA Girls Inc. Manager reports that each She Engineers activity was interactive and allowed for one-on-one mentoring or group collaboration, and that participants continued to talk about those activities months later.
