About

Wilderness Inquiry Outdoor Adventures and Programs offers outdoor adventures and educational programs that connect people deeper to the natural world. The program is run by a nonprofit organization committed to making the outdoors accessible to all and seeks to serve individuals with disabilities, youth from racially, ethnically, and resource-diverse backgrounds, and others who face barriers to the use and enjoyment of public lands and waters. It operates as a leading organization in outdoor travel and offers nature-based programs that build confidence, connection, and tangible skills.

Since 1978, Wilderness Inquiry has sought to serve people from all walks of life. Its mission is to connect people of all ages, backgrounds, identities, and abilities through shared outdoor adventures so that all people can equitably experience the benefits of time spent in nature. Partners power its work through collaborative programming and advancing shared goals. One participant described watching the sunset together on the dunes as “pretty magical,” while another highlighted seeing seals and canoeing under a big boat during a Canoemobile experience in Santa Barbara. A 2025 participant in a Boundary Waters lodge-based adventure shared that the experience grounded them in being present, patient, and focused on the needs of others.
