Metro Baseball League was founded in 1992 as a non-profit organization created and existing solely to serve youth baseball in Minnesota. It is a community-based program serving the Twin Cities metro, Southern Minnesota, and Western Wisconsin.

Metro Baseball League and Minnesota Baseball Tournaments are described as one of the largest independent leagues and baseball organizations in the country, with over 700 league teams and over 600 state tournament teams, and over 10,000 athletes participating. The organization runs the largest statewide tournaments in youth baseball for the last 20 years. Teams can qualify for one of 19 state championship tournaments by playing in some of 380 qualifying local tournaments held by communities across the state, and more than 11,000 players and coaches will compete in these tournaments.
