Summer Day Camps at the Arboretum are part of an organization founded in 1958 that offers educational classes for more than 20,000 adults and children every year and is open 363 days a year. The mission of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is to connect people and plants for the planet, growing knowledge and inspiring action to support thriving ecosystems and the relationship with nature. The Arboretum is part of the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota and is world-renowned for woody plant and fruit breeding research programs, including the commercial introduction of the Honeycrisp apple and more than 160 cold-hardy plant varieties. Outreach to area schools provides K–6 science standards-based programs using plants and nature, and popular online programming and outreach extend access across the state. Nearly 700,000 visitors and nearly 1,000 volunteers engage with the Arboretum each year, and the University of Minnesota is an equal opportunity educator and employer.
