About

USYS Minnesota TOPSoccer is a soccer program where athletes play and practice soccer. The program is part of The Outreach Program for Soccer, a nationwide soccer program for youth and adults with mental and/or physical disabilities. The program states that TOPSoccer improves the overall fitness, self-esteem, and social skills of its athletes and enriches the lives of all who volunteer for or witness TOPSoccer.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Main season in summer from May through early August; the 2025 TOPSoccer season starts May 18, with Sunday practice time to be determined
• Price: TOPSoccer seasonal fee: $25.00; athletes receive a jersey, socks, shin guards and a summer of soccer, and the fee can be waived if a family is unable to afford it

USYS Minnesota TOPSoccer lists three primary goals: that athletes will be respected, safe and cherished; that athletes will have fun; and that athletes will experience the camaraderie and joy of being on a team. The program is a volunteer, non-profit program under the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA), which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a member of US Youth Soccer and the U.S. Soccer Federation. MYSA reports that it has been helping member clubs provide a soccer experience for Minnesota youth for more than 50 years, was founded in 1969 as the Minnesota Junior Soccer League, and was incorporated in 1987 as the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association. The leadership team includes TOPSoccer North Head Coach Emily Koch and TOPSoccer West Head Coach Jeff Mueller.

USYS Minnesota TOPSoccer notes community support from its primary sponsor, Mental Health Systems, which is described as mental health professionals specializing in DBT and whole-person care. The program states that it would never say no to any size donation and encourages parents, guardians, and contributors to check with employers about possible corporate matching grants. The program invites individuals or companies interested in supporting TOPSoccer MN in any way to contact [email protected]. Athletes in the program receive a jersey, socks, and shin guards.
