About

Elk River Youth Baseball offers travel baseball, fall baseball, youth baseball clinics, and umpiring, along with off-season baseball training that includes winter indoor training, fall indoor training, and advanced winter training. The program organizes travel team tournaments such as the IceBreaker Tournament and the 14A Invitational Tournament, as well as a House Jamboree and a House End of Year (EOY) Tournament. Players take part in travel tryouts, house evaluations, and a competitive house league for those not placed on a travel team.

• Ages: 8–15 years old
• Schedule: The typical season runs from April through the middle of July, with the ERYB season commitment running from May 1 through the end of the season, including state tournaments.
• Price: Parents can expect to pay approximately $200 in additional team and tournament fees for travel players, plus a non-refundable $50 tryout fee, and travel uniforms with jerseys at about $50 and pants around $25–$50, with hats included in registration.

Travel leagues typically include 16 regular season games played during the week, playoffs at the end of the year, 3 to 4 weekend tournaments per team, and 1–2 practices per week. Each travel level is pre-registered for 3 tournaments, and the coach may add a 4th tournament once the season starts. For ages 9–15, there is at least one Elk River travel team at each age, with most age groups having a second and possibly a third travel team depending on registration numbers and ability, and eligibility for travel teams is based on the participant’s current school grade. Players committing to Elk River Youth Baseball travel teams must not play for any other organized baseball team during the ERYB season from May 1 through the end of the season, including state tournaments, and Elk River Youth Baseball views club baseball as another sport in the context of this commitment policy.

Registration is open from mid-January through mid-March, with travel tryouts in mid to late March, and travel coach applications due before March 2. Travel coaches are interviewed in February and March, and head coach decisions are made the week before tryouts and/or after tryouts once teams are decided, with Elk River Youth Baseball selecting head coaches who can fully commit to their travel team from April through June. The 2026 calendar includes January–February Winter Indoor Training, late January summer registration opening, a February 15 early bird registration deadline, early March pre-tryout sessions, a March 15 travel registration deadline, a March 20 house registration deadline, and a March 21–22 Travel Tryout/House Evaluation Weekend. Early April marks the start of travel practices, May 1–3 is the IceBreaker Tournament, May 4 is the start of house practices, May 4 or 12 is set for team pictures, May 29–31 includes the 14A Invitational Tournament and House Jamboree (Minors, National, American), June includes a Saints Spotlight Game (date to be determined), June 26–28 is the House EOY Tournament, fall baseball registration opens at the end of July, a Homecoming Parade takes place in September or October, fall training registration opens in October, fall indoor training runs in November–December, and winter training registration opens in early November.

MYAS Travel Bat Standards apply to travel baseball, and information on rules, equipment requirements, league schedules, and standings is available on the MYAS website (www.myas.org). Traveling players are required to purchase a travel uniform consisting of jerseys (approximately $50), pants (around $25–$50), and hats, with hats included in registration. Elk River Travel Baseball plays in the Gopher State League (MYAS) for its 9U–15U age groups and competes with teams representing other area communities.

Professional evaluators who are not associated with Elk River Baseball are brought in for tryouts. The Travel Director is Todd Chandler, who can be contacted at [email protected], and travel coach applications are sent to [email protected]. The Travel Director and President review any exceptions or exemptions to the commitment policy. Umpiring questions are directed to Troy Hansen at [email protected] or 612-723-6743.
