Summer Smash Summer Camp includes activities such as art, music, science projects, games, playground time, and reading time. The program also includes arts and crafts, STEAM activities that combine science, technology, engineering, arts and math projects, and learning about other cultures through hands-on activities. Camp days also include safe exploration of local communities and structured learning.
• Ages: 5–10 years old
• Schedule: Full-day camps run June 15–September 2, 2026, with Downtown and South Minneapolis camps ending August 28; all centers are closed June 19 and July 3, and camp hours are 7 am–6 pm, with a minimum of four weeks enrolled and at least three days per week at Downtown and South, and full-time summer enrollment with a minimum of four weeks at Midtown
• Price: YWCA Downtown: Weekly $270; 4 days per week $230; 3 days per week $200. YWCA South Minneapolis: Weekly $275; 4 days per week $234; 3 days per week $203. YWCA Midtown: Weekly $375. Registration fee: $100 for Downtown and $125 for Midtown; prices shown are for prepaid service.
YWCA Minneapolis, which runs Summer Smash Summer Camp, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social services organization established in 1891. Its mission is to eliminate racism, empower women and girls, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA Minneapolis serves thousands of people every year through early childhood education, youth support services and educational enrichment activities, racial equity education, public policy advocacy, and community fitness facilities. Youth in its Youth in Action program lead a food and health item drive to support peers in Minneapolis Public Schools, and the organization partners with One Good Deed to combine its annual Children’s Centers winter clothing drive with One Good Deed’s Scarf Bombing campaign.
The leadership team includes Shelley Carthen Watson, President and CEO of YWCA Minneapolis; Lee Friedman, Chief Financial & Operating Officer; and Julie Schlueter Engen, Vice President of Human Resources. The camp leadership includes Andrew Kagima, YWCA Downtown Director (612-215-4174); Catherine Mahler, YWCA Midtown Director (612-215-4302); and Shelby Mielke, YWCA South Minneapolis Director (612-355-5520). A minimum number of participants is required to run Summer Camp at each location.
