About

Mu Explorations Summer Camp offers half-day, week-long theater camps where students take part in theater games, performance strategies, stage skills, musical theater, singing, dancing, and storytelling through song and dance. Camp activities include learning about the Asian American experience, exploring Asian American folktales and children's stories, global arcade games from across Asia and the Pacific region, dance, language, clothing, food, and creating new games. Students also work on costume design by experimenting with materials, researching history and culture, and using color, pattern, and fabric to create designs, as well as creating original scripts, mask-making, music, design, playwriting, developing performance personas, and building characters.

• Ages: 8–15 years old
• Schedule: Half-day, week-long camps running August 3–7 and August 10–14, 2026, with morning sessions from 9 am–noon and afternoon sessions from 1–4 pm, divided into elementary (grades 3–5) and middle school (grades 6–9) groups
• Price: All Mu Explorations camps are offered with an option to Pay As You Are. If additional financial support is needed, please let us know.

Elementary school camps include Ready, Set, Play! (morning, August 3–7), Musical Theater (afternoon, August 3–7), Costume Creations (morning, August 10–14), and Asian American Folktales (afternoon, August 10–14). Middle school camps include Theater Games for Actors (morning, August 3–7), Musical Theater (afternoon, August 3–7), Playwriting 201 (morning, August 10–14), and KPop Idol Camp (afternoon, August 10–14). If a student signs up for both morning and afternoon in the same session, the day includes a supervised lunch with a Mu staff member.

Each camp is led by professional theater artists. Theater Mu was established in 1992 and produces performances born of arts, equity, and justice from the heart of the Asian American experience. Mu Explorations Summer Camp is part of Theater Mu, which celebrates and empowers Asian Americans through theater and represents the Asian American diaspora while respecting diverse backgrounds and experiences. Mu (pronounced MOO) is the Korean pronunciation of the Chinese character for the shaman/artist/warrior who connects the heavens and the earth through the tree of life, and Mu was born out of a need for AAPI representation in American theater.

Mu Explorations Summer Camp is coordinated by programs manager Morgen Chang. Mu will prioritize students who identify as Asian or Asian American for enrollment, and past participants have specifically pointed out the joy of sharing theater with other AAPI budding artists. Special thanks for the 2026 Mu Explorations Summer Camp go to the Vilcek Foundation, and Theater Mu is a founding member of the Twin Cities Theatres of Color Coalition, alongside New Native Theatre, Pangea World Theater, Penumbra, Teatro Del Pueblo, New Arab American Theater, and Ikidowin.
