About

YMCA In Town Summer Day Camps include weekly visits to a YMCA branch with a pool, where campers take part in swimming. The program is connected to a range of YMCA offerings such as swim lessons, swim team, youth sports programs, Youth in Government, the Adaptive Swim Program, and several health-focused programs including Healthy Weight, Healthy Child, Livestrong for Cancer Survivors, Pedaling for Parkinson’s, Arthritis Programs, and Fall Prevention programs. Families are asked to send two snacks, lunch, and a water bottle each day, and the YMCA provides life jackets or allows children to bring one from home.

The YMCA In Town Summer Day Camps are part of the Family YMCA of Marion and Polk Counties, which has been active since 1892. The program leadership includes Felicia Fisher, Youth Development Administrative Assistant. The YMCA states that it is guided by the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and that it is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity for all since 1892.

The YMCA notes that it offers a military discount, financial assistance, scholarships, and that licensed sites accept ERDC, and that 58% of members receive some form of financial aid. It states that no one is turned away for an inability to pay, and that it offers free family memberships to all foster families in Marion and Polk Counties. It also provides children from refugee families with free access to educational summer day camps and offers an Adaptive Swim Program for children who are confined to wheelchairs.

During pool visits, the YMCA states that there will be at least two lifeguards, with camp staff in the pool and on deck. Each child is monitored to see how well they swim, which is used to determine how deep they are allowed to go. The YMCA notes that children may stay home on swim day if that is preferred.
