About
Music Saved My Life is a program of the Asbury Park Music Foundation that includes music education programs in school settings, after-school programs at Mt. Carmel, and summer recreation activities. Through this program, kids can receive scholarships to Lakehouse Music Academy, create and record music via the Hip Hop Institute, take part in a Music Business & Technology program, and collaborate in bands. The program also connects with public, private, and charter school programs and offers a free summer concert series and an annual holiday show.
APMF’s Music Saved My Life programming and philosophy has serviced under-resourced children in the Asbury Park area since 2014 and has included school programs, after-school programs at Mt. Carmel, and summer recreation activities. APMF funds scholarships to Lakehouse Music Academy, and kids at the Boys and Girls Club are able to create and record music via the Hip Hop Institute that APMF created. In addition to youth education, APMF has offered free summer concert series in multiple Asbury Park locations and brought back an annual holiday show in 2018 that raised money for APMF and local charities including Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County, AP Toy Drive, Mercy Center, and Jewish Family and Children’s Services. APMF has been able to put more than 250 instruments in the hands of kids and runs a Music Business & Technology program funded by a $110,000 grant from Impact 100 Jersey Coast.
The Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation was launched in 2011 and was renamed the Asbury Park Music Foundation in 2014. Its mission statement is that APMF keeps the Asbury Park music legacy alive by providing under-served youth with life-changing music education, helping the local music scene thrive and uniting a diverse community through music. Asbury Park Music Foundation has been recognized by the City of Asbury Park with a Proclamation, was the first recipient of the AP Chamber of Commerce’s Non-Profit of the Year at the 2019 Carousel Awards, and received the Spinnaker Award for Arts and Culture from the Eastern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce in 2021. APMF also shares a testimonial line that reads, “I want to live this life with true emotionSomeplace where the music plays I want to spend my days down by the oceanWhere music lives & children play.”
