Montessori Learning Center
Montessori Learning Center, 205 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood, NJ 7450
About
Montessori Learning Center offers activities such as movable alphabet work, short word/object matching, Golden Beads and Bank work, measuring liquid transfers, and a carrot peeling job. Children also take part in observing rock formations, creating decorative vests, and a 100 Days activity as part of the program’s materials and projects. All materials are created for the children to touch, manipulate and explore, repeat and enjoy, and materials are rotated every week so that dozens of concepts are covered each school year.
• Ages: 3–5 years old
MLC, as the program is often called, has been in operation for almost 50 years. The teachers develop activities for the students that focus on the “whole child,” and each activity is created to actively teach the children a concept as well as “how to learn.” The children in the program come from diverse backgrounds and from several towns surrounding Ridgewood. MLC also hosts community events to create an awareness that everyone is part of a bigger world. Over its many years, MLC has promoted creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, cultivated problem-solving skills, and encouraged mutual respect for others’ efforts, building teamwork and collaboration skills.
Parents describe Montessori Learning Center as wholesome, responsible, and caring, and say the teachers are wonderful and know each child well. One parent notes that their shy child became more independent over two years and that every teacher and helper knows their child, “like one big family.” Another parent shares that their daughter loved the school from age 3 to 5 and that they plan to send their younger child when old enough.
