• Ages: 3–18 years old
Since 1994, NDI New Mexico Dance Programs has served children and is celebrating 30 years. The organization states that over 80% of its budget is used for programs to enhance and sustain teaching in public school and after school programs, with a focus on participation by underserved children. Its mission states that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate children, that it relies on donor generosity so programs reach children regardless of income, language, cultural or physical challenges, and that it teaches hard work and an uncompromising standard of excellence as a path to a sense of achievement and self-respect. The program notes that it works with 300 teachers in 90 public schools statewide and that it offers a Super Wonderful Advanced Team (SWAT), the HIP to Be Fit® program, Teaching Excellence® Workshop, Train the Trainer program, Teaching Artist in Residence program, and summer camps at both The Hiland Theater and The Dance Barns.
Community involvement facts include that NDI New Mexico is partially funded by the City of Santa Fe Arts & Culture Department and the 1% Lodgers’ Tax, and that members of Santa Fe fire and police departments and Santa Fe Public School teachers have participated in an NDI New Mexico performance. Testimonials from parents, students, and supporters describe performances featuring over 400 children alongside Indigenous performers, Ballet Español dancers, public safety personnel, teachers, parents, and alumni, and express gratitude for the program’s role in their children’s lives, its emphasis on movement, safety, positive education and discipline, and its impact across ages.
