Founded in 2017, PLAYDAY describes its mission as providing original, screen-free creative enrichment for children, offering art-focused after-school programming, and attracting exceptional educators who serve as positive creative role models. According to its mission statement, PLAYDAY focuses on helping children develop imagination, confidence, and social-emotional awareness, and states that it is not focused on creating professional artists but on raising confident, creative children who feel comfortable expressing themselves and embracing their individuality.
Every PLAYDAY instructor is described as a highly trained artist, and the team is described as highly trained arts educators who weave relevant art history and social references into each activity. PLAYDAY states that parents are welcome to join their children in all activities at no additional cost, that children 4 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and that children 5+ can be dropped off. The program notes that all offerings are drop-in, space permitting, with online booking recommended to ensure a spot, and that it offers UNLIMITED ACCESS programs with three-month or annual options that include access to guest appearances, advanced art workshops, and special events.
PLAYDAY has a “dress for mess” approach, using materials that wash off fabrics and skin easily with soap and water. It states that it does not offer food, candy, or snacks, that children can bring nut-free snacks and lunch, and that filtered water is provided. The program also notes bus stop and school pickup within a 1-mile radius for the after school program, flexible rescheduling with cancellation allowed within two hours of class and rebooking (with no refunds), and uses the motto “HAVE FUN | BE AWESOME.”
The leadership team includes Founder & CEO Gregory Okshteyn, President Craig Levy, Director of Family Relations Megan Smith, Director of Human Resource Shalisia Johnson, Director of Operations Ashley Federico, Partnerships & Community Events Manager Madeline Oldham, and Studio Managers Blythe Graziano, Renfield Peale, Amira Rogers, Isabella Wachsler, Cathy Jackson, Hannah DiTonno, and Kalah Hendricks.
One testimonial from Melissa Ben-Ishay describes a 3-year-old child coming home excited about projects created at PLAYDAY Hoboken, noting that the child was proud of the work and that the family booked a 4th birthday party there. Another testimonial from Coralyn R. states that her son is excited to attend, is proud of the artwork he brings home, and that she appreciates that each student has their own table and space.
