Founded in 2017, PLAYDAY describes itself as NYC'S #1 CREATIVE SPACE FOR KIDS and focuses on an art focused after school program, original “no-screen” creative enrichment, and custom creative BIRTHDAY PARTIES. PLAYDAY states that it set out to attract professional educators as positive creative role models for children while elevating social emotional awareness and creative development through ART, and it is described as supporting children's creative enrichment and imagination through enhanced cognitive development, boosted self-confidence, and refinement of problem solving skills. The mission also states that children unlock their own creativity while focusing on embracing diversity, building confidence, and developing an awareness of self.
Every PLAYDAY instructor is described as a highly trained artist and highly trained arts educator with extensive knowledge, and instructors are said to weave relevant art history and social references into each activity. The leadership team includes Founder & CEO Gregory Okshteyn, President Craig Levy, Director of Family Relations Megan Smith, Director of Human Resource Shalisia Johnson, Director of Operations Ashley Federico, Partnerships & Community Events Manager Madeline Oldham, Studio Managers Blythe Graziano, Renfield Peale, Amira Rogers, Isabella Wachsler, Cathy Jackson, Hannah DiTonno, Kalah Hendricks, and Assistant Manager Chloé Gill.
PLAYDAY notes that all materials wash off fabrics and skin easily with soap and water and advises families to “Dress for mess.” PLAYDAY does not offer food, candy, or snacks; children can bring nut-free snacks and lunch, and filtered water is provided. Parents are welcome to join their children in all PLAYDAY activities at no additional cost, children 4 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and children 5+ can be dropped off. If someone other than a parent is picking up a child, parents are instructed to email the location with all necessary pick up details. All offerings are DROP-IN space permitting, and families are instructed to BOOK online to ensure a spot. The after school program offers bus stop and school pickup within a 1-mile radius, and UNLIMITED ACCESS programs are available with three month or annual options that include access to guest appearances, advanced art workshops, and special events. A FIRST ACTIVITY FREE offer is also listed, and one testimonial notes that each student gets their own table and space.
In one testimonial, a parent describes a 3-year-old child coming home excited about projects created at PLAYDAY and notes that the child was proud of the work and returned two days in a row, later booking a 4th birthday party at PLAYDAY Hoboken. Another testimonial states that a child “loves it here,” is proud of the artwork brought home, and that the instructors are “awesome,” with each student having their own table and space.
