Long Island Academy of Fine Art is described as Long Island’s premier art school and the first school for classical art studies on Long Island. It offers an Atelier program where students can follow a progression of classes, or they can take classes à la carte in specific subjects. All classes are taught by exhibiting professional artists with thorough MFA or equivalent training.

The Long Island Academy of Fine Art was unofficially started in 1999 and officially became LIAFA in 2000. The school moved to a larger space in early 2008, and Steve Forster and his wife Rebecca took over directorship in early 2014 as Directors. The academy was unofficially founded by Robert and Flora Armetta.

The program’s stated primary goals are to train the student’s eye to see accurately and with sensitivity, and to foster an environment in which students can grow in their understanding of art as well as in skill and confidence. At the core of the classes is the objective of training a student’s eye to see accurately and with sensitivity.

LIAFA attracts students from Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, and other parts of Nassau County and Suffolk County, as well as from Queens, Brooklyn, NYC, and beyond. For FIGURE FRIDAYS, an RSVP is required by texting or calling 516-590-4324 or emailing [email protected].
