All classes are taught by exhibiting professional artists with thorough MFA or equivalent training. The Long Island Academy of Fine Art offers training in the methods and techniques of classical representational art, with classes for kids in Kindergarten through 7th grade, teens with portfolio preparation options, and adults of all levels and abilities. Classes run year-round, seven days a week, and students can either follow a progression of classes through an Atelier program or take classes à la carte. Youth Summer Programs are available for grades 3–12, do not require prior experience, and each week presents a different online or in-person workshop for young artists, with certain teen courses marked specifically for portfolio development.

The Long Island Academy of Fine Art was unofficially started in 1999 and officially became LIAFA in 2000. It moved to a larger space with better classroom space in early 2008, and Steve Forster and Rebecca Forster took over as directors in early 2014. Robert and Flora Armetta are the founders of the Long Island Academy of Fine Art. The academy was the first school for classical art studies on Long Island and has established itself as the premier art academy on Long Island. Its primary goals are to train the student’s eye to see accurately and with sensitivity, and to foster an environment in which students can grow in their understanding of art as well as in skill and confidence. LIAFA attracts students from Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, and other parts of Nassau and Suffolk County, as well as from Queens, Brooklyn, New York City, and beyond. Figure Fridays require an RSVP by text or call to 516-590-4324 or by email to [email protected].
