Founded by the Riverside Church in 1961, Riverside Hawks has a long history as a basketball and youth development program. The mission of Riverside Hawks is to help the students and families in its community use basketball to pursue academic opportunities and promote character development, and to improve the lives, academic opportunities, and career prospects of young people by using sports as a vehicle. The program expanded over time to support not only basketball players but any young person in the local community and creates and takes part in programs for Harlem and New York City.
