About

Yorkville Tennis Club Junior Programs offers Three's Program, Red Ball 1, Red Ball 2, Orange Ball, Green Ball, Yellow Ball, High Performance - Yellow Ball, and a Beginners Program. The Three's Program uses foam or red balls, 17 or 19 inch rackets, and mini courts, and first-time students receive a brand new racket to keep. Orange Ball uses lower pressure orange dot balls and 60' courts, Green Ball uses lower pressure green dot balls on 78' full courts, and Yellow Ball uses full pressure yellow balls on 78' full courts.

Programs

  • Three's Program — Ages 3 · Tue, Wed and Thu 3:00-3:30 pm and 3:30-4:00 pm · Fun introduction to tennis; uses foam or red balls, 17 or 19 inch rackets and mini courts. First-time students receive a brand new racket to keep.
  • Red Ball 1 — Ages 4-5 · Mon and Tue 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Wed 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm; Thu 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Fri 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm; Sun 10:00 am and 11:00 am and 12:00 pm
  • Red Ball 2 — Ages 6-7 · Mon and Tue 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Wed 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm; Thu 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Fri 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm; Sun 10:00 am and 11:00 am and 12:00 pm
  • Orange Ball — Ages 8-9 · Mon 4:00 pm; Tue 5:00 pm; Wed 3:30 pm; Thu 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm; Fri 4:00 pm; Sun 10:00 am and 12:00 pm · Uses lower pressure orange dot balls and 60' courts. Applicants must be 8 years old at the time of program start. Max 6 per court with a general 4:1 student/instructor ratio.
  • Green Ball — Ages 10-11 · Mon 5:00 pm; Tue 5:00 pm; Wed 4:30 pm; Thu 5:00 pm; Fri 4:30 pm; Sun 11:00 am · Uses lower pressure green dot balls on 78' full courts. Applicants must be at least 10 years old at the time of program start. Max 6 per court with a general 4:1 student/instructor ratio.
  • Yellow Ball — Ages 12 and up · Mon, Tue and Thu 6:00 pm; Fri 5:00 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm · Uses full pressure yellow balls on 78' full courts. Applicants must be at least 12 years old at the time of program start. Max 6 per court with a general 4:1 student/instructor ratio.
  • High Performance - Yellow Ball — Wednesday and Friday; Thursday 5:30-7:00 pm · For kids at a higher skill level preparing for competition using full pressure yellow balls. Acceptance is subject to approval by the Junior Directors. For self-motivated competitive players.
  • Beginners Program — Ages 8 and older · Fri 6:00 pm · Designed for kids who have never played and/or never had any formal instruction.

About the provider

The junior programs have been offered since 1993. The leadership team includes Director Michael Filipek and Assistant Director Rick LaVere. The stated goal is to offer a great tennis experience to people who live and visit NYC.

Low student-teacher ratios. Children are separated into groups and curriculum is adjusted according to ability and age. First-time Three's Program students receive a brand new racket to keep. Applicants must be 8 years old for Orange Ball, at least 10 for Green Ball, and at least 12 for Yellow Ball. High Performance acceptance is subject to approval by the Junior Directors. No membership required.
