Nyack Center Youth Programs

Nyack Center Youth Programs includes Breakfast Club, After-School Program, Tutoring Program, Health and Wellness Project, Camp Nyack, Teen Summer Classes, Teen Council, Nyack Youth Collaborative, Nyack Center Computer Lab, Friday Night Teen Nights, and Youth Summer Enrichment. Activities include a nourishing breakfast, an after-school snack, homework help, enrichment and recreation, English, Math, and SAT tutoring, yoga, cooking, kickboxing, swimming, dancing, art, hiking, gardening, arts and crafts, photography, sound and music production, gaming, community service credit, computers, and tutoring for schoolwork, research, papers, and special projects.

Programs

• Breakfast Club — Grades K-6 · before school · Provides nurturing, educational and recreational activities plus a nourishing breakfast.
• After-School Program — Grades K-8 · after school · Provides an after school snack, help with homework, and opportunities for enrichment and recreation.
• Tutoring Program — middle and high-school students · A collaboration between Nyack Public Schools and Nyack Center with English, Math, and SAT tutors to help students achieve academic goals.
• Health and Wellness Project — after-school students · An extra class focused on social and emotional wellbeing, including yoga, cooking, kickboxing, and more.
• Camp Nyack — entering first grade-entering sixth grade · summer; 8:30 am-3:00 pm · Located at Marydell Faith & Life Center. Campers spend the summer swimming, doing yoga, dancing, creating art, hiking, gardening, and doing arts and crafts.
• Teen Summer Classes — teens · summer; 10:00-11:00 am and 11:00-12:00 pm, Monday-Friday · Classes include Dance/Hip Hop/AfroBeats/Latin, Photography, Sound/Music Production, Cooking, and gaming.
• Teen Council — teens · meets twice a month virtually · Teens organize events for other teens, social justice actions, and workshops. Participation qualifies for community service credit.
• Nyack Youth Collaborative — youth and families · meets once a month · Over 40 youth service organizations in Rockland County meet to improve the county’s network of services and activities, share information, and address gaps in service accessibility.
• Nyack Center Computer Lab — community youth · A free drop-in space with computers and tutoring available for schoolwork, research, papers, and special projects, with assistance as needed.
• Friday Night Teen Nights — teens · Friday nights · A program run by teens, for teens, to participate in the performance arts and socialize in a substance-free environment.
• Youth Summer Enrichment

About the provider

Nyack Center was founded in 1990. Its mission is to create connections across social, cultural and economic boundaries, and to improve the lives of all in Nyack and the larger community of Rockland County. The center reaches over 2,000 people each year by providing programs, facilities, and opportunities for service, and it relies on volunteers, partners, and donors.

The office follows the Nyack Public School Calendar; so if school is closed, the office and school-based programs are closed. The Nyack Center offers fee-free and sliding-scale programs. Camp Nyack is described as low cost and sliding scale.
