The Oswego County Youth Bureau was established by Oswego County resolution number 147 in 1974, consolidating a new county department with the Oswego County Youth Bureau that had been in existence since 1963. The mission of the Oswego County Youth Bureau is to contribute to a collaborative network of effective, integrated programs and services, to coordinate comprehensive county-wide youth and family services planning, to provide direct and indirect services and activities for youth and families, to improve the quality of life for individuals, families and the community, and to empower youth to become responsible members of society. The Youth Bureau system in New York State focuses on providing positive youth development opportunities for all youth, as well as early prevention services for youth at risk of becoming involved in delinquent behavior, and the Oswego County Youth Bureau also coordinates services for runaway and homeless youth in Oswego County and allocates funds from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to community agencies for youth development initiatives and recreation programs. The Youth Bureau and Parks & Recreation services are funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Oswego County, Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, USDA Summer Feeding, federal AmeriCorps, program sponsors, and fees. The executive director of the Oswego County Youth Bureau is Brian Chetney.
