Brighton Rowing Club (BRC), founded 1998, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization led by volunteers and is not a school-funded sport. Coaches are the only paid staff. Brighton Rowing Club (BRC) serves eligible 7–12 grade students from Brighton, as well as other neighboring communities in the Rochester NY area without rowing programs of their own. No prior rowing experience is required, and participation in a Learn to Row program is not required. The program competes in 4–5 regattas each fall and spring season. Participant fees cover coaching, facilities, equipment, and regatta costs, and private donations help the program expand and improve. The program notes that rowing offers excellent cross-training with low injury risk, is a total-body workout, and is described as the ultimate team sport.
