Rockville Centre Recreation Department Youth Programs include activities such as a Gaga Pit, a summer playground, summer basketball programs for youths and adults, and spring, summer, and snowflake softball leagues. The program also offers community events including a Spring Egg Hunt, a Halloween Dance Party & Parade, a Christmas tree lighting, a community Chanukah party, Breakfast with Santa’s Helpers, and RVC Races.

The department has operated a nursery school program for more than 45 years, which provides a nurturing environment to prepare children for kindergarten. The summer playground has run every year since 1954. Popular annual events bring out thousands of residents for the Spring Egg Hunt, Halloween Dance Party & Parade, Christmas tree lighting, community Chanukah party, Breakfast with Santa’s Helpers, and RVC Races. The Recreation Center includes two gymnasiums, four nursery school rooms, an auditorium, meeting rooms, a large children’s playground with a SmartPlayground and sprinkler park, an outdoor basketball court, a handball wall, a passive park, and a soccer field, and the nursery school program has four pre-k rooms with indoor and outdoor playground facilities, including a SprayPark. The Gaga Pit is open during park hours, and GaGa balls are available at the Recreation office for use. Summer basketball programs for youths and adults include 100 teams, and spring, summer, and snowflake softball leagues offer competition for men and women in eight divisions.
