About
A Kid Again Adventures offers family outings such as trips to amusement parks, sporting events, zoos, theme parks, entertainment centers, and museums. The program includes both in-person Cost Free/Care Free Adventures and Virtual Adventures, with activities set up as fun, accessible, stress-free outings for families raising a child with a life-threatening condition. Everything needed for these Adventures, including admission, food, and parking, is provided at no cost to participating families.
• Price: Adventures are cost-free.
A Kid Again Adventures states that childhood should be more than treatments and that hospital stays and medical routines can take away the simple joys of childhood. The program’s mission is to give that joy back through cost-free Adventures where families laugh, connect, and feel “normal” again. Families can join as a supporter, as a new family, or by taking part in an Adventure, and they can find a local chapter by state and county or city. Program policies include what is a qualifying family member, who is eligible to attend Adventures, and the importance of Adventure confirmation.
The leadership team includes Co-Founder Kathy Derr. Community involvement includes a network of entertainment businesses, donors, and volunteers that enable accessible family outings year-round. One testimonial describes Adventures as “the one day we don’t feel like the ‘sick family.’ We just get to be together, smile, and make memories like everyone else.” Donors Tom and Ann DiMarco describe the A Kid Again motto as “hope, happiness, and healing.” Volunteer Kim Chappell notes almost 20 years of volunteering and mentions the smiles on kids’ faces and parents grateful for a fun day with their families. Co-Founder Kathy Derr shares that she knows from firsthand experience how important support is and that every family deserves and needs it.
