About

Central Ohio Martial Arts offers martial art classes in Tae Kwon Do (Ji Do Kwan), Haidong Gumdo Korean Sword, Hapkido, Gongkwon Yusul, Hopaesool, Gungsul Korean Traditional Archery, and Tai Chi. The program also offers self-defense classes and American Red Cross CPR, AED, First Aid, and BLS classes. Central Ohio Martial Arts and Supply operates a supply store that provides uniforms, belts, weapons, and sparring gear for students.

Master Laura Clements has owned and been the head instructor of Central Ohio Martial Arts and Supply since 1999. She is the Head Instructor, a Tae Kwon Do Master, Haidong Gumdo Chief Master, Hapkido Master, Gongkwon Yusul Master and Director, Kickboxing Instructor, CPR, First Aid, AED and BLS Instructor, and Hopaesool Instructor. She holds an 8th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do certified by the United States National Tae Kwon Do Federation and Kukkiwon, a 7th Degree Black Belt in Haidong Gumdo certified by the World Haidong Gumdo Federation, a 5th Degree Black Belt in Hapkido certified by Hapkidowon World Hapkido Headquarters, and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Gongkwon Yusul certified by the International Gongkwon Yusul Association, and she is a Hopaesool Instructor certified by the Hopeasool World Federation. She is an International Referee for Gongkwon Yusul under the International Gongkwon Yusul Association, an International Referee for Tae Kwon Do under the United States National Taekwondo Federation, and an International Referee for Haidong Gumdo under the World Haidong Gumdo Federation. She has over 30 years of martial arts experience, has taught hundreds of students, and has promoted over 100 individuals to Black Belt. She teaches students from age 6 and up and has experience teaching ADHD/ADD, mildly autistic, deaf, and special needs children and adults. All Black Belts at Central Ohio Martial Arts are certified in world federations and national federations.

Master Clements has taught Tae Kwon Do and self-defense in a variety of community settings, including Lifetime Fitness in 2013, Sunbury Home Educators from 2006–2009, ACPA from 2002–2006, the Ohio State University College of Social Work from 1999–2003, OSU Continuing Education for Human Service Professionals from 2000–2003, the Ecole After School Program in 2000, Central Ohio Tae Kwon Do from 1993–1999, the Korean American School at Central Ohio from 1993–1998, Worthington School's Evening Classes from 1992–1996, and YMCA North from 1992–1997.

Her credentials and awards include the 2018 Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters 2nd Class WTA Taekwondo Master Qualifying Course and 2nd Class WTA Taekwondo Judge Qualifying Course, recognition as a Top 3 Haidong Gumdo school and Demonstration Team at the 2018 2nd PanAm Mulimpia, and the 2017 United States National Taekwondo Federation Grand Master Instructor Certification in Tae Kwon Do. She holds a 2013 Certificate of Kukkiwon Membership and has earned many national and international medals, trophies, and grand championships, including the 2012 United States National Taekwondo Federation 18th International Championships Women's Forms Grand Champion, a 2009 U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang 1st Place Forms Medal and 1st Place Weapon Forms Medal, and Grand Champion in Tae Kwon Do forms at the 2005 United States National Taekwondo Federation Christmas Tournament. Her instructor and master instructor certifications include a 2012 Instructor Certification in Gongkwon Yusul, a 2008 Master Instructor Certification in Hapkido, a 2005 United States National Taekwondo Federation Master Instructor Certification in Tae Kwon Do, and a 2004 Master Instructor Certification in Haidong Gumdo. She has received multiple special appreciation and recognition awards from the United States National Taekwondo Federation between 2002 and 2010, a World Haidong Gumdo Federation Special Recognition Award in 2006, an OSU Appreciation Award from the Ohio State University College of Social Work in 2002, commendations from the Ohio House of Representatives, community service awards, and lifetime membership in the Jidokwan Historical Society. Her international competition results include a Gold Medal in sword forms at the 2004 World Haidong Gumdo Federation Championship in South Korea and 3rd place in Grand Championships Bamboo Cutting at the 2006 World Haidong Gumdo Federation Championship in South Korea.
