Youth & Family Programs is part of the Youth & Family department at Asian American Community Services (AACS). The program operates within an organization that also includes Community Education, Interpreting & Translation, and Health Care & Prevention departments.
• Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am–5pm; closed Saturday and Sunday; closed on New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th/Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after, Christmas Eve (closed early), and Christmas Day
Since 1976, AACS has led efforts to empower and develop the local Asian community through its programs and services. In 1976, almost four years after he started providing social services and other assistance to the local Asian community, Dr. Shuh-Chai Lee founded AACS. The mission of AACS is to improve the well-being and quality of life of Asian Americans and Asian immigrant families in Ohio by providing social services and empowering individuals through education, training and leadership.
AACS is described as the premier non-profit community-based organization serving the needs of Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Central Ohio. It remains the only nonprofit in Central Ohio which serves all AAPI persons regardless of age, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background, and it assists individuals regardless of their ethnic or racial background. AACS is dedicated to serving the entire Asian and Asian-American population in Central Ohio, including people from East, Southeast, South Asian and Pacific Islander communities, and has also assisted people from West Asia and Middle Eastern countries.
The organization’s leadership history includes Dr. Shuh-Chai Lee as founder of AACS and as Executive Secretary and Executive Vice-President, and Reverend Pogue and Dr. Pogue as President and founding members of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Kawakami is noted as Treasurer and a founding member of the Board of Trustees.
