Sandusky County Raptors Special Olympics

Sandusky County Raptors Special Olympics offers year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Athletes can take part in basketball, bocce, bowling, disc golf, golf, softball, swimming, and volleyball through this program.

Since 1964, the Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD) has walked alongside individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout Sandusky County. SCBDD connects individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to services, support, and community at every age and stage of life. SCBDD is proud to support Special Olympics athletes throughout Sandusky County through the Sandusky County Raptors and is a county board established under Ohio law, governed by an appointed board of community members, and funded through local levies and state and federal resources. SCBDD provides direct services through Early Intervention and School of Hope programs and connects adults and families to community resources, providers, and personalized support through its Service and Support Administration team. The program’s leadership includes Ed McClain, Self-Advocacy and Special Olympics Coordinator, and Sarah Zimmerman, Superintendent of the Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
