YMCA of Sandusky County Youth Programs include youth swim lessons, family fun nights, fitness classes, and Community Health Programming. The program also offers LiveStrong At The Y for cancer survivors, the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s patients, The Middle School Initiative for Fremont & St. Joe’s students, and Cycle Sandusky County.

• Schedule: Facility hours are Monday–Thursday 5:00 am–9:00 pm, Friday 5:00 am–8:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am–4:00 pm, and Sunday Noon–5:00 pm.

The YMCA of Sandusky County was chartered in 1953, officially became the YMCA of Sandusky County in 1960, and moved to its current location in December 1962. The field house was constructed in 1985, and the fitness center was constructed in 1999. Post Covid 19, the YMCA completed refresh projects that updated the Don Miller Room, ChildWatch, the Cycling Studio, the Child Development Center, the Main Lobby, and staff offices. In 2023, YMCA program sites at Terra State Community College and the Fremont Senior Center opened and began offering fitness classes. In 2024, a second YMCA Child Development Center opened at Hayes Memorial UMC, and a third off site program center opened at Otterbein Senior Life in Marblehead offering Community Health Programming.

The YMCA of Sandusky County states that it is not just a “swim and gym” but a mission-driven organization committed to meeting the needs of the community. Its mission is that the Y is the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose and each other, with a focus on empowering young people, improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across communities. The YMCA of Sandusky County utilizes information from the Community Health Assessment compiled by the Sandusky County Health Department, the YMCA’s Community Needs Assessment, and feedback from partners to offer programming to meet critical needs. The YMCA is a proud member of community organizations.

The leadership team includes Jeremiah Wagner, CEO | Chief Executive Officer; Tim Wilson, COO | Chief Operating Officer; Heather Cooper, Child Development Director; Nik Santoro, Wellness & Program Director; Christy Witt, Membership Director; and Abbey Gipe, Aquatics Coordinator. The board chair is Andrea Thurston, Pastor at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church. Board members include Cassandrea Tucker (Retired, Fremont City Schools); Ruthann House (CEO, Great Lakes Community Action Partnership); Deb Agee RN (Director of Nursing, Sandusky County Public Health); Andrea Gibson (Director of Alumni Relations, Tiffin University); Jessica Kirkendall (Executive Director, Otterbein SeniorLife); Crystal Margraf RN (Patient Care Supervisor, ProMedica); Theresa Elfring (Vice President Senior Manager Client Experience, Croghan Colonial Bank); Nick Cray (CEO, Fremont Federal Credit Union); Ken Frost (Safety Service Director, City of Fremont); David Thornbury (Marketing Director, Sandusky County Visitors Bureau); Jason Focht (Owner, Focht Construction); Jason Hawkins (General Manager, Comfort Inn & Suites); and Ron Meade (Retired District Manager, Friendship Stores/Beck Oil).
