The Simon Kenton Council’s stated goal is to be the premier leader in youth development for central and southern Ohio as well as Greenup County, Kentucky, and it follows Scouting America’s program that builds character, trains young people in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. The council is one of the largest in the nation and serves 18 counties in central and southern Ohio and Greenup County in northern Kentucky. It is staffed by more than 25 professional and administrative Scouters, with more than 4,500 adult volunteers delivering the Scouting program to nearly 9,000 youth, including at least 1,000 youth in the ScoutReach program. Youth served include boys and girls ages 5–20 living in urban, rural, and suburban areas, and through ScoutReach, youth in at-risk areas of central Ohio are delivered the full Scouting program at little to no cost to the Scout’s family. The Scout Registration and Uniform Scholarship program is in place so that financial need never stands between a youth and their Scouting journey, and in 2025 the council launched a five-year strategic plan with a goal to double Scouting and serve 20,000 youth by 2029.

Simon Kenton Council is joined by about 300 charter partner organizations that sponsor Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, and Exploring Posts in its council. Through partnerships with Columbus City Schools, the ScoutReach program is delivered to Scouts after school. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew or initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The council also participates in the National Jamboree 2026, which is described as an adventure of a lifetime that happens only once every four years.
