About
Camp Invention is a weeklong STEM experience where children take part in hands-on STEM adventures. Campers time travel to ensure their ideas are patented and protected against the Infringers, investigate a series of mischievous pranks, create sleuthing gadgets, collect bits of fluffy fur, reveal a trail of animal tracks, examine suspicious splatters and forensically analyze the evidence. They ride the waves of entrepreneurship as they dive into hands-on buoyancy experiments, paddle through salty challenges, sketch, design and build prototypes, and create an innovative billboard boat. Campers also build a DIY rocket, launch a mission to transform a faraway planet’s atmosphere, terrain and ecosystem, Rover Race to collect important data and samples, and design and build inventions for navigating the intense conditions of their planet. Along the way, they hatch a mysterious animal egg, encounter a dazzling crystal surprise and join in high-energy morning games that encourage creativity and teamwork.

Camp Invention is led by qualified local educators. Over 1,500 camp programs run nationwide in schools, community centers and other local facilities. The program has been honoring the spirit of innovation and promoting inventors as role models since 1973. Its mission statement is: “We inspire emerging creators and entrepreneurs through our education programs and honor the history of innovation through our museum and Hall of Fame Inductees.” Camp Invention’s education programs combine hands-on fun and creativity with STEM concepts, and several programs promote innovation for all ages in all communities. Campers team up with real-world inventors and sharpen their detective skills with a fleet of capybaras.
Camp Invention operates in partnership with over 1,400 districts nationwide and in Puerto Rico over the past year. It was founded and is supported in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Since 1973, it has impacted more than 4 million children, students, educators and innovators across the nation, with 2,144 philanthropic partners making STEM education more accessible.
The leadership and education team includes Rachelle Albrechta (Director of Program Development), Jayme Cellitioci (Senior Director of Education), Ashley Giordano (Manager of Program Management), Susie Duchon (Education Specialist), Rachel Lutes (Curriculum Writer), Emily Mitchell (Senior Content Writer), Sara Pompeo (Editor), Maggie Saine (Spanish Services Lead & Education Specialist) and Jennifer Sitton (Director of Science & Product Development).
Parent and caregiver testimonials describe children coming home eager to share what they are learning, excited to bring inventions home and teach siblings, and looking forward to returning the next year. Several parents note that their children made friends, enjoyed the hands-on creative projects and wanted to attend again. One grandparent reports that a grandchild gained knowledge, confidence, friends, a sense of cooperative learning and an openness to others’ ideas. Multiple parents mention children who were initially hesitant about camp but ended up loving the experience and not feeling bored during the long day.
