Portage Learning Centers Head Start and Early Head Start offers Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start. The program includes classroom and home visits, and meals and snacks are provided for all participants. Head Start Preschool is no-cost and center-based, and Early Head Start is no-cost and home-based, with a center-based program also provided at Kent and Ravenna.

About the provider
Portage Private Industry Council, Inc. doing business as Portage Learning Centers was incorporated in 1983. It was awarded the State and Federal Head Start programs in 1997 and the Federal Early Head Start program in 2010. All centers have received the Ohio Step Up to Quality Gold Award. The program encourages families to become involved in home visits, classroom activities, and program and policy decisions.
Head Start Preschool and Early Head Start are income-based programs. Families receiving SNAP benefits and homeless and foster children are automatically eligible. Twelve months of documented income must be provided. Proof of age is required for child applicants. Pregnant women do not need proof of age or proof of pregnancy. The program does not discriminate. PLC reserves the right to expel or refuse enrollment for a child it believes poses a threat to other children’s well-being and/or is abusive to staff.
