The YWCA of Van Wert County was originally chartered in 1914, and its building opened on September 30, 1916. Its stated mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The organization provides direct services, empowerment programming, and advocacy to support marginalized individuals and families, especially women and girls of color, while working to challenge structural barriers to equity. YWCA Survivor Services Programs provide safe housing to all victims regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The organization offers programs that lift voices through empowerment opportunities, youth development, and survivor services programs, as well as programs that maximize opportunity by increasing independence and self-sufficiency. Safe spaces programs are described as protecting participants from emotional or physical harm and encouraging respect. The YWCA of Van Wert County also provides free trainings and resources for businesses, schools, and organizations.

In 2023, 5,852 free meals were provided through the Summer Food Program. In 2024, more than 700 individuals were trained in prevention and safety programs, and more than 600 children county wide were served through Youth Development Programs.
