Open Campus began in 2009 as a pilot in Crook and Tillamook Counties, and Juntos followed in 2012, starting with a single pilot school in Jefferson County. The Tillamook Tech Trek camp was created in 2014, and the Central Oregon Tech Trek camp was created in 2018. The program is led by Emily Henry, Director of OSU Open Campus, and Gina Galaviz-Yap, Director of OSU Juntos.

Open Campus works with elementary, middle, and high school students to promote college and career access and partners with schools, community colleges, universities, businesses, foundations, community organizations, regional economic development groups, K-12 education systems, and local government. The Tillamook Tech Trek camp is a partnership between OSU Open Campus Tillamook County, AAUW Tillamook, Tillamook Bay Community College, Tillamook School District #9, and Tillamook Estuaries Partnership. Tech Trek is a national program of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), is a camp for 8th grade girls focused on preventing girls from losing confidence in STEM, and uses a nomination and selection process that involves students’ STEM teachers. Local Open Campus Coordinators support learners throughout their educational journeys.

Juntos is bilingual, engages the entire family, and minimizes barriers to participation, with program components that include a family engagement workshop series, family nights, college visits, student clubs, mentoring, advising, and summer camps. New Beginnings for Tribal Students (NBTS) is an emerging program within Open Campus, and its Environmental Leadership for Youth (ELY) Camp is a summer gathering on the OSU main campus for incoming and high school students rooted in culture, learning, and connection; NBTS also offers scholarships, emergency financial assistance, and conference funding for students. Oregon State University Extension Service prohibits discrimination in all its programs, services, activities, and materials on the basis of multiple listed protected classes.

A Yamhill County teacher reported that one Tech Trek participant pursued hydro engineering after camp, received special recognition at the State Science Fair from the Navy, and is continuing with engineering in high school. A Juntos student participant described being introduced to Juntos in 8th grade, said the program had a tremendous impact on their life, noted that their parents gained insight into the journey to college and became very supportive, and stated that the Juntos Club provided resources and a community of similarly motivated students, leading them to highly recommend participation in the Juntos Program.
