About
Day Camp includes activities in STEM, physical activity, arts and crafts, group games, basketball, soccer, volleyball, fitness, and dance. Each week has an engaging theme that allows youth to explore, create, and play. The program includes Traditional Day Camps, Specialty Camps, Jr. Camps, Sports Camps, and Leadership Camps (CIT program).
• Ages: 4–16 years old
Traditional Day Camps are available for full-day child care at locations throughout the Portland and Vancouver Metro Area. Day Camps are also offered at Oxbow Park's Camp Collins location. Curriculum activities focus on STEM, physical activity, arts and crafts, group games, and other enriching social development activities.
Specialty Camps are specialized to allow children to deepen their knowledge and experience in subject areas of their choice. Each week of Specialty Camps has a different focused curriculum, intentionally designed to help students explore areas of interest, build basic skills, and take their learning to the next step. Each day in Specialty Camps, students participate in skill building activities focused on peer cooperation, creative thinking, and hands-on learning.
Jr. Camps are available at Sherwood Regional YMCA and Clark County YMCA. Jr. Camps are structured the same as Specialty Camps, but offer shorter days and age-appropriate curriculum. Sports Camps offer the opportunity to try a new sport or hone skills in one they love, including options such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, fitness, and dance.
Leadership Camps (CIT program) offer teens the opportunity to develop leadership and program skills that will hopefully lead to a counselor position in the future. The focus of Leadership Camps is on small group dynamics, communication skills, teamwork, and values clarification. CITs help to organize games and activities with the campers and assist the counselors with daily responsibilities.
Day camp is described as a great place to learn about surroundings, make friends, and build self-confidence. Assistance is available to qualified participants because the Beaverton Family YMCA believes everyone deserves a chance to be a community member, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. The Beaverton Family YMCA offers a variety of programs for all ages and fitness levels.
The YMCA of Columbia-Willamette hosted its first meeting in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Portland in 1868. YMCA of Columbia-Willamette strives to serve the community in spirit, mind, and body. The organization serves a wide community, including more than 250 active older adults, through group exercise programs and a fitness facility.
