A typical Wondery Summer Camps day runs from 9–10am for arrival, drawing invitations, and a morning meeting; 10am–12pm for Morning Art Stations; 12–12:30pm for Creative Storytime; 12:30–1:30pm for lunch and adventure; 1:30–2pm for an Art Show; 2–2:15pm for clean up and pack up; and 2:15–2:45/3pm for Glow in the Dark Art. Wondery Summer Camps is part of a community art studio that provides creative programming for ages 2 through adult and describes its approach to creating as an adventurous one, with a focus on the journey and support to try out new techniques, take risks, and embrace the joy of the experience. The studio includes a visual arts studio, ceramics studio, a Reggio-inspired classroom, and an art supply shop on site.
Wondery’s leadership team includes owner Rae Alberg and Julie Wilson. Rae’s background includes a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education, a certificate in Infant Toddler Mental Health, Art and Art Therapy courses, and Forest School Teacher Training. Julie has a background in Art Education/Crafts and Psychology and has worked as an Art Educator for 23 years, teaching all ages in many different types of schools, camps, and recreation centers in Oregon and on the East Coast.
Wondery works with Bend Forest School to provide a weekly art class at their campus, with Silvie’s River Charter School for quarterly field trips to Wondery and single day workshops for Forest Kindergarten, and also participates in public school events and festivals. In addition to camps, Wondery offers arts and crafts classes, art experiences at Wondery or off-site, and art-filled birthday parties, including hosting an art project for 15 kids.
Parents describe Wondery as “such an amazing place” with a studio “set up in a perfect way for kids,” and “a gem” that they “LOVED” visiting with their 4-year-olds. One parent reports that Sarah hosted “the most magical, inspired art project for 15 kids” at a three-year-old’s birthday party, and another notes that 10 children aged 5–11 were “fully focused, joyful and engaged in creating” with mixed media materials. A parent also states that Sarah “did a great job” with a 7th birthday party and would recommend her services for a “unique, art filled birthday party option.”
