About

Wondery Summer Art Camps include guided instruction, open creation, outdoor exploration, and imaginative play, with campers exploring different media and experimenting with techniques. The program uses themed weeks such as Rainbow Makers Lab, Star Seekers, Comics & Graphic Storytelling, Magic Camp, Myth Makers, Ocean Creatures & Merworld, Wacky Painting Week, Dino Dig & Fossil Art, Clay Handbuilding Intensive, Wild Artists Week, Fairy Houses & Tiny Worlds, Mixed Media Sculpture, Inventors Workshop, Jewelry & Small Object Design, Glow Studio Finale, Drawing & Illustration Studio, Printmaking Lab, Acrylic Painting Studio, Watercolor & Ink Botanicals, Fiber & Wearable Arts, Ceramic Sampler, and Earth Art & Natural Sculpture. Each day includes time outdoors to explore nearby natural areas, with creating and playing outdoors as part of the camp experience.

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm

The daily schedule runs from 9–10am for Arrival, Drawing Invitations and Morning Meeting; 10am–12pm for Morning Art Stations; 12–1pm for Lunch and Adventure; 1–2pm for Afternoon Art Stations; 2–2:30pm for Clean Up and Pack Up; and 2:30–3pm for Art Walk, Story, and Glow in the dark Art. Ages 5–8 camps are described as playful, themed art camps focused on imagination, sensory exploration, and creative process, and ages 9–12 camps are described as medium-focused art camps for older kids ready to go deeper.

Wondery Summer Art Camps are part of Wondery Art + Adventure, which includes a visual arts studio, ceramics studio, Reggio-inspired classroom, and art supply shop. Wondery Art + Adventure states that its approach to creating is an adventurous one, with a focus on the journey and support to try out new techniques, take risks, and embrace the joy of the experience.

Owner Rae Alberg’s background includes a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education, a certificate in Infant Toddler Mental Health, Art and Art Therapy courses, and Forest School Teacher Training, and she founded Bend Forest School in 2018. Julie Wilson’s background includes Art Education/Crafts and Psychology, 23 years of work as an Art Educator teaching all ages in many different types of schools, camps, and recreation centers in Oregon and on the East Coast, and experience as a Naturalist guide in Central Oregon and in National and State parks across the USA.

Wondery Art + Adventure works with Bend Forest School to provide a weekly art class at their campus, with Silvie’s River Charter School for quarterly field trips to Wondery, and offers single day workshops for Forest Kindergarten, public school events, and festivals. Testimonials from parents describe the studio as set up in a way they found suited to kids, and describe experiences such as an arts and crafts class with a 4-year-old, birthday parties with art projects for groups of children ages two and a half to fifteen, and mixed-age groups of kids ages 5–11 engaged in creating with materials like hammers, scissors, glue, markers, pencils, paint, and mixed media.
