Cleveland High School, 3400 Southeast 26th Avenue, Cleveland, OR 44122
About
The Cleveland Youth Basketball Program offers activities such as scrimmages, skill building activities, and winter basketball recreational teams that play in the Portland Parks & REC Goldenball League. The program also runs special events and clinics, including Youth Night 2026, a Winter Break Shooting Clinic, a Shooting Clinic, Coach Glasgow’s Annual Summer Camp, the Jackson Cooper & Alumni Youth Camp, and a Free Throw a Thon. During Youth Night 2026, youth participants cheer on the Warriors Varsity in the Cleveland vs. McDaniel Varsity game, sit in designated seating behind the Warriors home bench, and take part in a PIL 6th grade scrimmage during half time.
• Ages: 8–13 years old
• Schedule: Youth Night 2026 on Friday, January 9th at 7:00 PM with tip off at 7:15 PM; Winter Break Shooting Clinic on December 22nd and 23rd
The Cleveland Youth Basketball Program has been serving the Cleveland community since 2007. All youth players wearing their Cleveland jerseys receive free admission to the Youth Night game, and prizes are available throughout the game, with a post-game meet and greet photo opportunity with varsity players and coaching staff. The program notes that event capacity limits have led to sell outs of the Winter Break Shooting Clinic, and that player participation is never based on a person's ability to pay.
The program’s leadership includes CHS Varsity Head Coach Sam Glasgow and Cleveland alum and current Oregon Tech Owl Jackson Cooper. Future Warriors in the program have the opportunity to be mentored by former CHS student athletes who participated in Cleveland Youth Basketball, CHS Varsity Basketball, and college basketball. The program states core components of humility, accountability, integrity, leadership, and gratitude, and its mission is to build each individual towards becoming a better person, student, and player, with every player feeling recognized and appreciated and leaving each practice with a smile, whether they are an All-State player or the last man off the bench. The mission also emphasizes controlling attitude, effort, and focus, and includes the goals to play harder, play smarter, and play more together.
The Cleveland Youth Basketball Program is a 501c3 non-profit organization and is volunteer driven. It works closely with and in support of the Cleveland High School Boys Basketball Program, which is also a 501c3 non-profit organization and volunteer driven, serving the Cleveland youth and high school basketball community. Cleveland Basketball is described as a feeder program working closely with and in support of the Cleveland High School Boys Basketball Coach and Program, and it is not associated with or supported financially by Portland Public Schools.
