MHCC Aquatic Center Swim Lessons offers swim lessons in indoor Learner and 25-yard pools that have a wide range of water temperatures and depths. The program also takes place alongside other aquatic activities at the center, including water exercise classes, lap swim, and open recreation swim. Swim lessons are offered for ages 8 months through adult.
• Ages: 1–18 years old
• Price: Current students and staff may use the pools for free during the public lap swim and open recreation swim times. Community class offerings, such as water exercise and group swim lessons, require a registration fee.
Mt. Hood Community College opened in 1966. The MHCC Aquatic Center welcomes MHCC students, staff, and community members and is described as the largest swim lesson program in East County. The indoor Learner and 25-yard pools are described as offering the widest range of water temperatures and depths of any facility in East County. At Mt. Hood Community College, the stated mission is to provide affordable and accessible education to all students.
All swim lesson instructors are certified through the American Red Cross. The Aquatic Center also offers certification courses for lifeguards and swim instructors, including positions that earn American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification and require completion of an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification course. The leadership team includes Aquatics Manager Donna Ryan, Aquatics Program Coordinator Tara Cree, and Administrative Assistant Shanna Cooper.
