MHCC Aquatic Center Swim Lessons offers swim lessons, water exercise classes, lap swim, and open recreation swim in indoor Learner and 25-yard pools that have a wide range of water temperatures and depths. The program offers swim lessons from 8 months of age through adult and is described as the largest swim lesson program in East County.
• Ages: 1–18 years old
• Price: Current students and staff may use the pools for free during the public lap swim and open recreation swim times. Community class offerings, such as water exercise and group swim lessons, require a registration fee.
All swim lesson instructors are certified through the American Red Cross. Swim lesson instructors hold American Red Cross certifications, lifeguards are required to complete an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification course, and Water Safety Instructors can earn certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. The aquatics leadership team includes Donna Ryan, Aquatics Manager; Tara Cree, Aquatics Program Coordinator; and Shanna Cooper, Administrative Assistant. Programs include community class offerings such as water exercise and group swim lessons for community members. Mt. Hood Community College opened in 1966, and its mission statement is: “At Mt. Hood Community College, we believe in providing affordable and accessible education to all students.”
