About
Revolution Parkour Gresham offers skill based movement classes that focus on parkour and freerunning instruction. The program includes structured instruction in parkour techniques along with the use of equipment for freerunning instruction. All classes and open gyms are by appointment only, with absolutely no walk-ins.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Wednesday 5pm–8pm, Thursday–Friday 4pm–8pm, Saturday 11am–3pm; Sunday open only for private events
Revolution Parkour Gresham was started in 2014 by Matt Antis and Ryland Lanagan as a parkour academy that also provided the instructors and equipment for freerunning instruction, and it is independently owned and operated. RVPK was started in Beaverton in 2008 as one of the largest and longest established parkour gyms in the United States. Students at Revolution Parkour Gresham range in age from 3 to 76 years old, with classes three times a week for ages 3–5 (Superheroes in Training) and three times a week for ages 5–7 (Young Superheroes). The program opens 15 minutes before the first scheduled class and places a red sign outside the door once open, and it opens on Sundays only for private events.
All of the instructors are CPR and First-Aid certified. Revolution Parkour Gresham states that parkour is always taught with safety as the first priority and that keeping students injury free through proper training and instruction is the number one priority. The mission of Revolution Parkour Gresham is to teach parkour safely, efficiently, and to everyone willing to learn, with a focus on functional fitness for all ages and physical abilities and a philosophy of learning to overcome obstacles to build confidence in movement and all aspects of life. RVPK instructors state that they balance teaching proper parkour technique and its philosophy and purpose with training physical condition, including strength, range of motion, aerobic endurance, bone density, joint alignment, and structural efficiency.
Families are asked to have students wear loose fitting athletic clothing and shoes with a rubber sole and good arch support, with low cut shoes recommended for ankle flexibility. Students are asked to bring their own water bottle, and there is a water fountain to fill bottles and bottled water available for sale. Revolution Parkour Gresham notes that there are opportunities for scholarship trade or barter for classes with a skill or service, subject to availability. One testimonial shared by the program quotes David Belle describing parkour as a method of training to overcome obstacles in urban and natural environments, and another quote from Matt Antis emphasizes demonstrating respect as essential to parkour.
