La Grande Basketball Day Camps is part of NBC Camps, which is celebrating 55 years of camp excellence and is one of the largest and most respected sports camps in the world. The camps are led by experienced NBC coaches, who are known for their hard work, great attitude, and commitment to helping athletes reach their potential on and off the court, with an approximate 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio. Campers are grouped by age, skill, and experience into teaching groups and teams, and the junior camp is a lighter version of the overnight camp curriculum that runs at a pace more suitable for younger or more beginning athletes. NBC Camps emphasizes Christian values, the importance of commitment, and daily habits needed for future success, with a motto of “better players, better people,” and teaches topics such as gratitude, confidence, goals, self-discipline, mental toughness, building stronger families and friendships, and developing a strong personal faith. The camp atmosphere includes encouragement, skill mastery, intensity, enthusiasm, Christian values, and leadership training on and off the court, and NBC focuses on training the total athlete. NBC Camps is popular with families from Cove, Union, Pendleton, Enterprise, and other nearby communities, and offers many different programs and training options in six countries, including basketball and volleyball camps, training academies, year-round clinics, and international travel teams.
Campers should bring a sack lunch, a clearly labeled basketball, a water bottle, and a completed online medical release waiver, and they need to supply their own athletic equipment, including well-broken-in basketball shoes. Allergies, dietary restrictions, and medical concerns should be included on registration so campus and camp staff can be prepared. Transportation is not provided, there is no supervision before or after camp hours, and campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own and being picked up on time. NBC Camps states that coaches are trained to serve others, to be intentionally engaged with each camper, and to operate as professionals, and that each moment at camp has a purpose and meaning, with both coaches and campers responsible for providing energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement to create a positive culture and learning environment.
