City of Lake Oswego Youth Tennis offers young people a place to learn about tennis and to become competent in the sport. The program includes learning tennis fundamentals such as strokes and movement, stroke development, strategy, and both competitive and noncompetitive play. Participants also play games, work on coordination, balance, agility, physical development, and develop an athletic foundation, with options for accelerated skills, mental training techniques, and preparation and support for competitive tennis.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The Tennis Center’s mission statement is that it provides a place for young people to learn about tennis and to become competent in the sport. All equipment is provided, including for Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Ball, and Yellow Ball classes. Red ball is larger than a standard yellow ball and has 25% compression, with smaller courts and nets. Orange ball is the same size as a standard yellow ball but has 50% compression, and players use the regular net on a smaller court with a smaller racquet. Green ball has 75% of the compression of a standard yellow tennis ball, moves a little slower, and bounces a little lower, and green ball players use a full-size court with a full-size or slightly smaller racquet. Yellow ball players use a full-size court with a full-size or slightly smaller racquet. The program includes Jr. Excellence, which is described as a comprehensive program and requires a professional’s approval.
