Chehalem Cultural Center Youth Camps and Classes include specific options such as Earth & Nature, Builder’s Camp, and Performance Camp. Participants create drawings, paintings, sculptures, mixed media pieces, collage, and printmaking projects during these programs.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Six-week class sessions with 90 minutes of instructional time, plus up to 1.5 hours of prep time as needed
• Price: $16.00/hour for Event Technician; $16/hour for Visual Art Instructors for Teens

The Chehalem Cultural Center’s historic building was originally an elementary school, Central School, built in 1935. The building includes a 214 seat theatre, four arts galleries, three multipurpose arts studio classrooms, a state-of-the-art clay studio, a recording studio with four music practice studios, meeting space, and a 5,200 square foot grand ballroom for public and private events. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sundays from 2pm to 6pm, plus scheduled class and event times.

The Education Manager for these programs is Clara-Liis Hillier. Preferred skills for Visual Art Instructors for Teens include teaching and/or camp experience and First Aid/CPR certification, which can be obtained during training and reimbursed by the Chehalem Cultural Center. Qualifications for these instructors include visual art skills and training, exposure to and passion for the arts, experience working with kids, strong communication skills, being organized, being a team player, integrity, a sense of humor, and being self-directed.

The mission of the Chehalem Cultural Center is to inspire and enrich lives by connecting community and culture. The Center is part of the Newberg Cultural District, a joint effort of the City of Newberg, Chehalem Park and Recreation District, Newberg Public Library, and Chehalem Cultural Center, managed by a board that includes a representative of the surrounding neighborhood. The Chehalem Cultural Center receives support from the Oregon Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Oregon Cultural Trust, and Business Oregon, and serves Newberg, Dundee, St. Paul, McMinnville, Sherwood, and many other surrounding cities and towns in Yamhill, Marion, Washington, and Multnomah counties.
