George Fox University, 414 N Meridian St, Newberg, OR 97132
About
NBC Basketball Camps at George Fox University includes basketball skill work, games, tournaments, and basketball instruction. Campers take part in shooting, offensive moves, drills, video analysis of shots, personal evaluations, and a special Intensity Night, and they can visit a camp store during camp. The program also includes leadership training, goal setting, and teaching on mental toughness, confidence under pressure, skill mastery, enthusiasm, self-discipline, and Christian values.
• Ages: 10–17 years old
• Schedule: Overnight and extended-day options with sessions offered June 30–July 3, July 8–11, and July 13–16
For overnight and extended-day campers, first-day check-in begins at 12:30 pm, with last-day check-out at 4:00 pm. Extended day campers meet the first day from 12:30 pm–9:00 pm with dinner provided, middle days from 9:00 am–9:00 pm with lunch and dinner provided, and the last day from 9:00 am–4:00 pm with lunch provided. Players are asked to bring their own athletic equipment, at least one pair of well-broken-in basketball shoes, and a clearly labeled basketball, and they are encouraged to bring a fan because there is no air conditioning. Transportation is not provided, and there is no supervision before or after camp hours, so families arrange drop-off and pick-up on time.
NBC Camps has been running camps at this campus for over thirty years and notes 55 years of camp excellence. NBC stands for “Nothing Beats Commitment,” with a stated motto of “better players, better people,” and the program teaches gratitude, confidence, goals, self-discipline, mental toughness, building stronger families and friendships, and developing a strong personal faith. NBC Camps is described as the largest overnight basketball camp program in the world, with camps in six countries and additional offerings such as summer camps, fall and spring training academies, year-round clinics, and international travel teams.
Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury, and NBC Camps’ full-time staff work year round on curriculum, staff training, and camp environment. Campers are separated into teaching groups and teams based on age and ability, with multiple leagues so athletes train with their age group and skill level, and they receive personal assessment of athletic and basketball skills. Coaches are trained in servant leadership, are expected to be intentionally engaged with each camper, and operate as professionals, providing instruction, correction, and detailed understanding of the game for each level. Intensity Night is described as involving sweat, music, encouragement, and confidence building, and campers choose their own level of intensity without being forced beyond their abilities. NBC Camps coaches and campers are responsible for bringing energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement to create a positive culture, and camps at this site sell out each year with campers from across Oregon and the Portland area.
