Youth Programs - Newport Recreation Center includes activities such as art, music, arts and crafts, physical exercise and games, outdoor games, outdoor hikes, beach trips, whiffle ball, tennis, softball, and pickleball. Children and teens can also take part in a PreSchool Indoor Park, a parent/child play group, board games, Wii, ping pong, movies, team challenges, and chances to learn to play pool. Some sessions include experiential learning focused on local history, artifacts, geology and animals, as well as reading skills, math skills review, independent reading, math challenges, making slime and other “gooeys,” making snacks, conducting a fundraiser, and hearing from guest speakers.

• Schedule: Options include a PreSchool Indoor Park on Fridays and Sundays, an afterschool program on weekdays, a summer program on weekdays, and teen room hours during the school year.
• Price: $40.75 or $35.50 with resident discount for Teen Fitness Training; PreSchool Indoor Park is a fee program with pre-walkers free; Teen Room and Teen Fridays are free with membership or drop-in rates apply; Fridays are $3 youth drop-in days.

Completion of Teen Fitness Training allows 12–14 year olds to use the Fitness Center without supervision, and Fitness Center age restrictions of 15 and up apply to the entire second floor of the Recreation Center. Fitness Specialist Brenda Luntzel is associated with Teen Fitness Training, and the leadership team also includes Miranda Carter of The Friend Zone.
